Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

by Amanda Bradbury • Hauliers could be breaking laws they don't even know apply to them, says a newlypublished law report.

Commentary in the Eclipse Group's January Industrial Relations Law Report on a recent High Court ruling suggests that hauliers are bound by European Directive law.

This means that any law passed by the European Parliaments in Strasbourg or Luxembourg applies to UK hauliers—even if not endorsed by the Westminster Parliament and enshrined in UK law.

The report commentary Sterns from a High Court ruling in December which includes the idea that any business which is regulated by the UK Government—as hauliers are through their 0-licences—is bound by European Directives.

Official bodies such as the NHS and the Government itself already have to abide by European law. But, so far, no one had thought that UK-registered private businesses were bound by directives from the European Parliament.

Hundreds of these directives have not been enshrined in UK law, including some which form part of the Social Chapter.
