G. W. Quick-Smith has been appointed to the Transport Tribunal. He retired from the National Freight Corporation, where he was chief executive and deputy chairman, last August. Mr Quick-Smith, who is a barrister, joined State transport in 1948; between 1935 and 1948 he served as secretary of the London Cartage Association and then the National Road Transport Employers' Federation. He gained his early accounting and secretarial experience in the shipping industry. Following what has been an unusually quiet period for the Transport Tribunal, the new member will join his colleagues on Monday February 5: in two days six appeals are due to be heard.

William Green, 39, has joined D. B. Marshall (Newbridge) Ltd, as transport manager of the poultry producer's fleet of 130 vehicles.

Robert McLean, 59, has been promoted divisional superintendent, northern division, Glasgow Corporation Transport, to succeed the late Mr George A. Mollison. David B. Monaghan, secretary of Black and White Motorways Ltd, since August, 1972, has been additionally appointed secretary of Greenslades Tours Ltd.

L. Thewlis has been appointed manager of the newly opened Manchester office of SGH (International Freight) Ltd — a member of the SG H Group of Companies at 134 Cross Lane, Safford 5 (tel. 061-736 3076/7).

J. G. Welling is one of several men involved in the reorganization into five divisions of the operating area of Hants and Dorset Motor Services. Mr Welling becomes divisional manager, Basingstoke: G. W. Seymour (Poole); P. T. Fairweather (Salisbury); I. J. Buchan (Southampton); and operating superintendent appointments are, M. Waring (Bournemouth); B. A. Hoare (Poole); F. Noyce (Salisbury); A. M. Elliott (Southampton). For the time being the Fareham division will be the responsibility of J. P. Berkshire, the assistant traffic manager (commercial).

Gwain H. Gillespie has been appointed managing director — Europe, of Chrysler UK Ltd. He has been serving as director-general — Chrysler France since May 1970 and as president and director-general since September 1971. Franklin M. Rogers, who has been managing director — Chrysler Espana, will succeed Mr Gillespie as president and director-general of Chrysler France. John W. Day, who has been managing director of Chrysler Fevre Argentina in Buenos Aires, is appointed managing director of Chrysler Espana.

Julian F. Ayres has been appointed general manager of Economac Ltd, the Tarmac Group's fuel oil distribution company. Before joining Tarmac, Mr Ayres was a director of the oil division of Charrington Gardner Locket Ltd.

Sidney Butler, workshop supervisor at Inverness, has retired after 27 years' service with the motor transport section of the Post Office.
