Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I WISH to advise you that I am deeply concerned and disappointed by the unfortunate mis-use of words used heading a report (CM February 12, page 12) — Sonesson ditches SAB — concerning the sale of my group.

The heading, in my opinion conveys that Sonesson's were pleased to dispose of SAB and could even infer to some readers the quality of SAB's business.

Whilst I am certain that the forementioned interpretation was certainly not the intention of the journalist concerned, I must say that, as a reader of, and advertiser in, the Commercial Motor for more than 15 years, the wording of the heading does not represent the journalistic qualities of the magazine, which we have come to expect over the years.

May I therefore ask you to consider publishing a statement of apology to ensure that there is no misunderstanding with regard to the credibility or integrity of this company or our group.

D. E. HALL Managing Director SAB Automotive Co Ltd Newton Aycliffe Co Durham While one meaning of the word ditch is to discard, of course in this case the firm was merely being sold as was made clear in the body of the report Editor
