NEW fire engines for Kent Fire Brigade are to have their sides finished in unpainted embossed aluminium. The traditional red is to be abandoned to minimize the effect of scratches which fire engines suffer in action. Money will also be saved.
The first vehicle in the new style is nearly ready. Hampshire Car Bodies. Ltd., Southampton, built the bodywork on a Commer chassis. It will be on show at Rootes showrooms. Mill Street. Maidstone, from March 4 6, together with a display of fire service equipment throughout the years.
