Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NEARLY £300,000 a year will result from fare increases which the Scottish Licensing Authority has authorized the State-owned Scottish Omnibuses Group to introduce on April 5.

The proposals, which were expected to yield an estimated £385.000, were mainly that single fares from 3d. to 9d. should be increased by Id. (The Commercial Motor, March 5). In granting the increase, the Authority has ordered that the 3d. minimum remain.

The group consists of Scottish Omnibuses, Ltd., W. Alexander and Sorts, Ltd., Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd., Central S.M.T. Co., Ltd., and D. Lawson, Ltd.

Other operators in the area are now expected to apply for permission to bring their fares into line.
