Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SIXTY-FOUR units (204 vehicles plus trailers) engaged on contract hire are offered by the British Transport Commission in List 4, which was published on Monday. Forty units in the schedule include parts of lots not sold in List 1 and not offered in List RI.

Of the 492 units for sale, 434 are offered without premises and 58 with them. There are altogether 2,354 vehicles, including 165 spares. Thirty per cent, of all the units are in the North Eastern Division.

There is a large proportion of units of up to five vehicles, although in the Midland Division the average number of vehicles per unit is nearly 11. The distribution of units and vehicles amongthe divisions is as follows:—

Twenty of the contract-hire units (63 vehicles and two trailers) are in the South Eastern Division. five (36 vehicles and 11 trailers) in the Scottish Division, five (15 vehicles and three trailers) in the North Western Division, four (Seven vehicles) in the Midland Division, three (14 vehicles) in the Western Division. three (11 vehicles) in the Eastern Division and 24 (62 vehicles and four trailers) in the Special Traffics Division.

Big Contract units

Two of the contract-hire units are large. One at Searles Road, London, S.E.1, comprises 29 vehicles, of vdhich

10 are six-wheelers and three eightwheelers. Thirteen vehicles are •based at Halifax. The contract-hire unit at Alva, Clackmannan, consists of 30 vehicles and 11 trailers.

Some of the non-contract units offered for the first time are also large. Unit 232 at Bethnal Green, London, E.2, includes 44 vehicles and premises. unit 231 at Stepney, London, El. 44 vehicles and four trailers, unit 1735 at Bolton, 33 vehicles and five trailers and premises, unit 1742 at Lostock Gralam, Northwich, 44 vehicles, eight trailers and buildings. unit 1966 at Loughborough. 37 vehicles and premises, and unit 1748 at Grimsby, 46 vehicles, 21 trailers and property.

Among the lots which have been remoulded and offered for a second time, List 1 units 96. 98 and 240 have been reorganized into two units based at 205-217 Kingston Road. New Malden. Surrey. They are now numbered 2172 (46 vehicles, including 23 articulated outfits and two vans and premises)—and 2173 (14 vehicles).
