Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Busy, busy, busy. The industry's two trade associations have certainly been busy. The Freight Transport Association's planned Dm advertising campaign is ambitious and long-overdue. Could this be the strategic approach we've been calling for in Commercial Motor? Over the next six months the FTA has to turn the heads of the Great British Public, The Great British Parliament and the Chancellor of the rotten Exchequer. And the more decision influencers, such as the CBI and TUC, it can persuade to speak up on behalf of the industry, the better.

But the message shouldn't be, and isn't, just about the plight of small truck operators—although dearly they're at the top of the pain pyramid. Gordon Brown has to see that the fuel escalator is having a devastating effect on Great Britain plc by forcing up transport, and ultimately industry's costs.

The FTA is asking truck operators to stump up money alongside its own ÂŁ500,000 contribution. Figures of up to ii,000 have been floated. While the association says that it can look forward to some "fairly substantial donations" from its own members it adds that if anybody wants to make a contribution, no matter how small: "We'll bite their hand off" Go on, this is probably the one time it's worth being bitten by a trade association. What's that expression about money and your mouth?

The FTA says it wants to "Create the biggest possible stink we can over the next six months." That smells like a good idea to us...

And the other piece of "busy" news? Oh yes, Steven Norris is leaving the Road Haulage Association.
