Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Volvo dealership MC Truck & Bus is opening a big new site in September at West Thurrock in Essex funded jointly with the Swedish manufacturer.

The 0.8 hectare site, in Oliver Road, not far from Truck World and Hanbury Riverside, will be able to hold about 500 ex-contract used Volvos. It will be used for refurbishment work as well as sales.

Paul Hughes, of MC Truck & Bus, will be used truck sales manager.

Volvo launched its Selected Used Truck programme nationally in May, and all 13 dealers, including Dennison Commercials in Northern Ireland. have signed up to it. Trucks covered by the scheme must be no older than six years and have clocked up no more than 800,000km. That can be 450,000km if the vehicle has been on stopstart local delivery work and if it is an FLC or FL6 grossing at up to 15 tonnes, or if it has been used in the construction or waste industries.

DATA ON THE WEB

Hauliers can now find details of second-hand trucks at Volvo dealerships on the Internet.

Volvo Truck & Bus (North) is the first outlet to list vehicles on the database, and others will follow by the end of the year.

Chris Sansome, the manufacturer's used trucks business development manager, says: "Although customers will not be able to buy trucks over the Internet yet, that is the plan. I would not see it happening during the next 12 months, but after that it is a facility we will make available."

SEPARATE SWEDES

Volvo's acquisition of Scania seems unlikely to have any immediate impact on the manufacturer's two dealer networks. Both companies emphasise that their brands and distribution arrangements will be kept separate (CM 19-25 August).

TRANSFLEET DISPOSALS

Auction group Manheim has stopped holding regular heavy truck sales at its Mansfield site.

It says the location is too close to Leeds where it also auctions trucks, and it's not because major leasing and contract hire operator Transfleet has stopped using Mansfield for disposals.

Instead, Transfleet is splitting disposals between three sitesCentral Vehicle Auctions at Doncaster, British Car Auctions at Bellevue, and Manheim at Colchester.
