• AWD has established a French subsidiary. AWD France, based in Lyon, will market the company's Construction range.
It is headed by general manager Jacques Bres, the former French sales agent for the DJB range of articulated tippers which were produced by AWD founder David JB Brown and are marketed worldwide by Caterpillar.
Now agents are set to be appointed in Germany and Italy, and similar deals are expected in most European countries by the end of the year.
Healthy tests
III New efficiency targets have been set for the vehicle inspectorate. Transport Minister Robert Atkins says the inspectorate will improve its 1989 cost efficiency by 8% before the end of 1991, compared with a target of 3.7%.

• The cost of building the Channel Tunnel has soared another 2500m since October, says EuroTunnel. The price has risen over the past three years from under 25 billion to more than £7.5 billion.
