HE 1982/83 wage battle begins. As week the Transport and snore! Workers Union held its vt strategic planning meeting the next round of wage talks. On Monday union delegates let at Transport House, Smith guars, London to formulate lair 1982/83 wage claim.

What is known is that it seeks wage increase; a reduction in le working week; improved ckness benefits; an increase in vernight and subsistence lowance; enhanced overtime 3yments; and guarantees of ,b security.
The Union told CM that the lain part of the claim was to improve the wages of HGV 1 drivers, particularly at the 32 tonnes level.
Mr Ashwell said there were four items which the union areas had been asked to discuss in detail. He declined, however, to say what theses were. It seems likely that they will be pay, allowances, sickness benefits and the reduced working week.
