Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• I refer to an article on page 11 of the September 20 issue, regarding the Leyland Freighter Fire Appliance.

To put the record straight, Fulton and Wylie was awarded the Bodybuilding and Fire Engineering Contract by this brigade. However, the chassis has been developed in conjunction with Lancashire Fire Brigade; in fact, it was following approaches from ourselves that Leyland decided to produce a chassis to our specification. Furthermore, I am not aware that any 'teething troubles' have been encountered by either Leyland, Fulton and Wylie, or the Brigade.

The truth is that the project has gone extremely well and to plan.

Any delays have been the responsibility of the Brigade, due to the original contract for 12 appliances being increased to 26, and the decision that the use of grp panels would become cost effective and most desirable.

Lancashire Fire Brigade have a long and successful record in joint development of fire appliances from standard truck chassis, our last major project being with Ford in the last 1960's with the 'D' Series.

There is every indication that the Leyland will be just as successful, with particular emphasis on reliability, safety and low operating costs.
