The zinc/air battery project which is to be • boosted financially by the Ministry of • Technology, as announced in CM last week. • is a Lucas development, it has now been • • revealed. The Ministry will put up • £180.000 and Joseph Lucas Ltd. a similar • sum over three years. Success could • • bring a reliable battery with less than half • the weight of conventional lead/acid types, • providing increased operating range for battery-electric vehicles.
• Lucas will be able to draw on the results • of US activity in the zinc/air field, through its 1967 agreement with General Dynamics.
