JOHN WELLS, formerly chairman of the Road Haulage Association has been appointed secretary of the Commercial Motor Lorry Driver of the Year Competition following the resignation of Alan Wilson.
Mr Wells is a transport consultant who was proprietor of a family haulage firm in London. His firm had been in business for 120 years until 1975 when it was wound up following a series of disputes involving London dockers.
As National Chairman of the Road Haulage Association Mr Wells gained a reputation as a very strong road haulage advocate. In recent years he has been actively interested in the welfare of owner operators.
