"We need better roads, and I shall do my best to see that they are provided and that existing roads are made better," stated Mr. Leslie Burgin, the new Minister of Transport, in a telegram to the Chief Constables' Association, read at its annual banquet, in Harrogate, on Thursday of last week.

" But still more do we need better road users," added the Minister. " The raising of the general standard of care in the use of the roads will have to depend very largely on the police, and I realise what demands it will make on them."
