Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

The Surveyor of the Wednesfield Urban District Council will be glad to hear of makers of five-ton lorries with regard to the purchase of a machine of this type.

At a meeting of the Electric Vehicle Club, of Boston, it was pointed out that there are nearly as many electric vehicles as there are petrol vehicles in Chicago. About 450 commercial trucks are in service or are on order for early delivery.

Between Portland, Weymouth and Dorchester the postal service in future is to be maintained by a new motorvan, in place of the pairhorse van which has hitherto been used on night service between those towns. The man who used to drive the old horsed van is the chauffeur of the new machine.

Halley's Latest Catalogue.

This catalogue is a useful addition to standard trade literature. It is drawn up with a keen idea of the requirements of users, and is carefully thumb indexed, whilst the specifications of the principal types and their prices are readily ascertained. Useful illustrations of typical machines are scattered through the book. Approximate running costs of Halley vehicles, both cost per mile and per tonmile, as well as on a weekly basis, are also included. The catalogue fittingly concludes with a reproduction, in extenso, of an article which appeared in this journal, on the 21st March last, entitled "From Yoker to Mogok," being a brief account of the work done by a fleet of seven Halley vehicles in passenger and goods transport work for the ruby mines of Mogok. A New Motor Mail Service.

We have received from Gould Bros., Ltd., two photographs showing the new 2545 h.p. Darracq mail van which has just displaced the old horse-drawn vehicle hitherto employed in carrying on the mail service between Exeter and Bud leigh Salterton. It is of interest to note in connection with the motor mail services that, last year, over £60,000 was saved on the Post Office costs by the substitution of motor-driven vehicles for horse-drawn vans.

Night Garage in Newcastle.

At a meeting of the Newcastle Central Estates and Markets Committee. a letter was submitted from the C.M.U.A., drawing attention to the need of suitable accommodation at night time for motorvans and lorries. The Association suggested the cattle market as a suitable place for such accommodation, on payment of certain charges pet vehicle. No definite decision was arrived at by the Committee in this matter. Should have Let the Horse Pass : At Caxton Police Court, recently, William Cornell, a motor driver, was summoned for driving a motor lorry to the hindrance of a passing horse and cart. The defendant, who had been a motor-lorry driver for three years. stated that he was quite unaware that the horse, and cart were behind him, or that they were attempting to pass him, nor did he hear anybody shout to him. Mr. Spencer, on his behalf, said that the Bench should not convict in this case unless they were sure there was wilful obstruction. The Bench, however, fined the defendant 21 inclusive, and expressed the opinion that some means should be adopted "by which men in these lorries could see what is following them on the road."

A Canadian Newspaper Fleet.

We reproduce herewith a photograph of three 15 h.p. Argyll newspaper delivery vans, which make a fifth repeat order received by Argylls, Ltd., from the oroprietors of the " Evening Telegram," Toronto, Canada. This newspaper now employs 12 of these vans, all of which are, utilized in delivering newspapers to the outlying parts of the Canadian city. As the climatic conditions are variable in the extreme,. and range from tropical heat in the summer to Arctic temperatures in the winter, our readers will understand that the work calls for great reliability and solidity of con struction. The fact that Argylls, Ltd., has received several repeat orders is sufficient testimony to the fact that this maker's productions are rendering a satisfactory account of themselves in Canada.
