DR CLIVE CAREFOOT, retired Chairman of Carefoot Plc, which incorporates Walter Carefoot & Sons (Transport) died in Royal Preston Hospital on 12 January.

Carefoot, 66, was associated with the transport industry and the Road Haulage Association (RHA) in particular for most of his working life. As a member of the Sub Area Committee and later the Area Committee he played an active part in upholding the principles of the RHA, providing dedicated campaigning, advice. information and business services specially tailored for the haulage industry.

Running a bulk tipping company, it was natural for him to concentrate on bulk tipping issues. He was elected to the National Tipping Functional Group Committee and served as its chairman for two years running.

Carefoot also became chairman of the National Tipping Convention (TIPCON); a position he held for two years. often speaking at the national conference to other members and guests including politicians such as Harold Wilson and John Prescott.

More local to his operating area, he was a founder member of the Carnforth Haulier and Quarry Negotiating Committee, which negotiated and agreed rates for all hauliers carrying stone from Carnforth Quarries. He was also a member of the Transport Managers Club.

His son Colin is now MD of Waiter Carefoot & Sons (Transport) and is continuing to develop the company.
