AT a dine of year when some companies may be using temporary generators the Health and Safety Executive has issued a Guidance Note on the safe installation and operation of emergency private electrical generation.
Guidance Note PM 53. liniewency Private Generation: Electrical Safety, provides advice to electrically competent people and those without electrical expertise.
It is available from HMSO or booksellers priced i'.2.25 and covers various aspects of generator and supply safety, including liaison with Area Electrical Boards, switching equipment, the protection of live conductors, the means of cutting off or isolating supply, connections, earthing and operation.

They are the result of a review of a special survey by HM Factory Inspectors which has revealed areas of concern in the ageing electrical distribution systems in many of Britain's factories.
