• Following a spate of mysterious engine fires in petrolengined Volkswagen LT Light commercials, VW is recalling for safety modifications 28,000 right-hand-drive petrol LT vans and chassis cabs produced since 1978.
Under the recall, which the company estimates will cost 1.25 million, VW will make minor changes to the LT's engine fuel lines, and to the securing catch on the flap in the engine cover.
The zinc clip on the engine cover is being replaced with an alloy component, while the engine fuel return pipe, made up of two lengths of plastic and rubber piping joined by a pressure clip, is superseded by a continuous pipe.
