John Metcalfe has been appointed area sales manager for Scotland and Richard Stokes has been appointed area sales manager for the North of England and the Midlands for the Commercial Vehicle Special Products Unit of Smiths Industries Ltd. Both will be responsible for the sales of the Smiths axle load indicator, tachograph and other ancillary products to fleet operators. Peter Swift becomes director of marketing -Europe, Industrial Trucks, for Clark International Marketing SA. His headquarters will be in Wilhelm, Germany, Born and educated in Sydney, Australia, Mr Swift has, for the past six years, been general sales manager and marketing manager for Hyster Europe Ltd, located in London. lie was previously with the Sydney distributor for the Caterpillar Tractor Company as branch manager.

R. Roberton, field sales executive, has been appointed to the position of sales and marketing manager of Magirus Deutz (Great Britain) Ltd.

Kenneth Gadd is now general manager of York Campbell Credit Ltd. Mr Gadd was previously, with Lloyds and Scottish Finance Ltd at its head office in London.

Ian S. Irwin, secretary, Scottish Transport Group, Scottish Bus Group and several subsidiary companies, has been appointed a director of the Scottish Bus Group.

R. S. Fern has been appointed fleet sales manager of Burton and Cole Ltd, British Leyland distributor with depots in Birmingham and Stourport and member of the Rodsley Motor Industries. Until recently Mr Farn was sales manager, commercial vehicle division, Colmore Depot Ltd, of Birmingham.

Darrell Thomas has been appointed Chrysler United Kingdom's director, field operations; he was previously manager of the London and South Eastern sales regions. Other Chrysler appointments include: Cyril Corke to the post of director, truck sales, from manager, truck sales; Michael Rowe as director, fleet sales, from dealer development manager; John Golding moves from manager to director of vehicle distribution; and Martin Graham from manager to director of advertising and sales promotion. John Preen, former fleet sales director, has taken up a special assignment within the company.

OBITUARY

We regret to record the death of Arthur J. Woo 'colt MBE. Mr Woolcott, 68, was former chairman and managing director of Wellworthy Ltd. He joined the company in 1927 as a skilled turner and became chairman and managing director in 1956.
