Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

and the Government are encouraging the extension of one-man bus operation, are any grants being made available for the provision of turning circles at the termini of such services, to avoid the dangerous procedure of reversing when there is no conductor to assist the driver?

AGenerally speaking the answer to this question is -no", although a Ministry of Transport spokesman stated that each case would have to be considered on its own merits. Usually the construction of such turning circles is the responsibility of the local authority concerned, and the authority would receive no grant from the Ministry.

If a new road is being built, however, and qualifies for an MoT grant, turning circles can be included in the construction scheme and their cost included in the overall grant to the local authority. An example of this has already taken place in Devon where a turning circle was incorporated in the construction of a new highway.

Any operator in doubt should approach either the local authority concerned or the highways division of the MoT if he thinks a turning circle should be provided.
