Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A tractive unit plated for operation at 16 tons gross combination weight is now being marketed by Rootes Motors Ltd. The model is based on the VC 5. 9.5 ton gross fourwheeler with a conversion by Halmo Engineering and Construction Ltd.

Halmo reduces the wheelbase of the 9ft 7in. model to 8ft 11.5in. and produces both fifth-wheel and automatic coupling versions. Like the basic VCS, the tractive-unit con

version has a Perkins 6.354. 120 bhp diesel engine, a Rootes five-speed synchromesh gearbox and 8.25-20, 12-ply tyres.

Price of the chassis/cab in this form is £1,601 with the conversion itself costing £425 for the automatic coupling model and £300 for the fifth-wheel version. An Eaton 16802 two-speed rear axle is available for the new model as a factory-fitted option at an extra cost of £130.
