Vulcanizer

W/ELL-KNOWN as the maker of all YV types of garage equipment, Harvey Frost and Co., Ltd., Bishop's Stortford, has recently introduced a new tyre-repair accessory in the form of an electrically heated vulcanizer.

The platen, which carries an adjust,. able screw press,, is provided 'with robust heating elements which have proved to be particularly trouble-free in service. One of the most important features in an electrically heated vulcanizer is the means provided for controlling the temperature and, in this case, a Morphy-Richards thermostatic device is used. It is fully automatic in its action, and infinitely variable in its temperature setting.

As supplied, the thermostat is correctly set for vulcanizing with I-IF materials, but no difficulty should be 'experienced, by .the average electrician, in resetting the control for higher or Tower temperatures. The sensitiveness of the thermostat is such as to provide a limir of control within 3 degrees of the setting, 'and this can be maintained indefinitely.

A pilot light illuminates the sight

a28 hole when the current is switched on but, when the platen attains vulcanizing heat, it goes out. The operative thus needs no electrical knowledge to operate the plant, as the heat indicator works automatically.

A complete range of mould's is available for dealing with tread or wall damage in covers ranging from 4 ins. up to and including 10 iris. When extensive damage has to be'repaired in a 10-in. tyre, the vulcanizing surface of the mould, forthis purpose, measures 12 ins. by 10 ins., other sizes being iii like proportion. Included in the range is the -HF universal tread mould, ,having a vulcanizing surface measuring 6 ins. by 5 ins. This mould is particularly useful for " spot " or small-area tread repair.s.

Provision is made for tube-repair work, and with the aid of tbe 1-IF valve-reseating unit, valves -of all types. may be resea.ted .by thes vulcanizing process.

Current consumption is given as 400 watts, and the vulcanizer can be supplied for Voltages of 100-10, 200-220 and 230-250.
