A Westcliff-on-Sea Concern Commences a New Long-distance Service, Employing Tilling-Stevens 33-seaters.
IN the early part of last week Westcliff-on-Sea Motor Services, Ltd., the headquarters of which are at Pier Hill Garage, Southend-on-Sea, commenced a long-distance service from London to Cardiff, Tilling-Stevens 33seaters being employed. These vehicles, the bodies of which have been con
structed by London Lorries, Ltd., of Spring Place, Kentish Town, London, N.W.5, incorporate arm-chair seats and the fittings that are usually to be found on high-class products.
Road Travel Bookings, Ltd., of Bush House, London, W.C.2, is the London agent for the service, and from the offices of this concern the coaches start at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 2.p.m. each day, arriving at the offices of Hinton and Britton, Ltd., Castle Garage, Castle
Street, Cardiff, at 5.30 p.m., 6.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m. respectively.
The route is via Oxford, Burford, Northleach, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth, Usk and Newport. The single fare from London to Oxford is 5s. 6d., the return fare 10s.
Regarding longer journeys, the single
fare to Monmouth is 11s. and, the return rate is -17s. The next stop is at Usk, and the fare from London to this point is 11s. 6d., whilst a return ,ticket is priced at 18s. To Newport the single rate is 12s. 6d., and the return fare is Finally, the single ticket for the whole journey costs 13s. 6d. and the return journey may be made at a cost of is.
All the seats are guaranteed, and children who are under the age of 14 may travel at two-thirds the normal fare. The return to London from Cardiff is made daily at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
