Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

in residuals, warns CAP

by Robin Meczes s-powered vehicle converms look likely to face serious oblems in the future used uck market, according to recasts from CAP mmercial Vehicle Monitor. CAP suggests public wariss over the safety of such hides will take its toll on ed values, with the best used ices for vans unlikely to ceed the petrol or diesel riant equivalents. And heav. trucks look unlikely to fare y better, adds Dave Hill, nior Red Book editor at CAP "There have been a number high-profile incidents 'ere tanks on converted hides have blown up as a suit of the way they've been ted,' says Hill. "The legislaIn on fitting conversions is simply not tough enough."

While Hill recognises that some installers are better than others, he doesn't believe an official list of approved installers would help matters much. "Whatever it says above the door of the installer, if someone thinks they can get the job done a bit cheaper elsewhere, they'll probably go there,'' he says. "I think the public probably should be wary of conversions,' he adds.

Hill also doubts that anyone looking to purchase a gas conversion cheaply in order to reconvert it back to petrol or diesel power would benefit much as they would face significant reconversion costs. On dual-fuel vehicles, there is the cost of removing the tank and, if it's a doughnut-shaped tank fitted in the spare wheel well there may also be the cast of adding a replacement spare. Hill says. CAP recommends a petrol diesel-equivalent residual for such vehicles minus the cost of re-conversion work.

If the vehicle in question is a fully gas-powered vehicle, meanwhile, things are even worse, says Hill. "To return one of those to petrol or diesel power, you're talking a couple of grand."

Where a vehicle features the manufacturer's own conversion, however—fully impact -tested, type-approved and warrantied—CAP predicts similar values to standard petrol diesel versions.

"Factory-fitted vehicles are definitely the ones to go for," concludes Hill.
