Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Mr, Dug-ald Clerk's opening address, at the Society of Road Traction Engineers, under which new title the onetime Society of Motor Omnibus Engineers inaugurated its third session, on Monday last, at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, is reported in this issue (pages 176 and 177). The remarks of so eminent an authority are deserving of close scrutiny, and we hope that his appeal for additional investigations will not be without result. All must regret that the Putney experiments were not on a more elaborate scale, but the Society was unable, at the time, to sanction any prolonged encroachments upon its financial resources. It is gratifying that so young an organisation should have been able to accomplish as much as it did, and the Secretary, Mr. Charles E. Esse, now that some valuable hints have been given, is not the man to let matters rest where they are. We trust to learn of a further series of tests, in order that different obscure points may be elucidated for the benefit of all motorists.

We might, however, take this opportunity of commending the Society to the attention of any members of the industry who may not yet belong to it. The Council's new programme is a most attractive one, and written application to the office, 7, Albemarle Street, W., will bring a prompt response, with particulars of meetings and subscription.
