CALL for a reduction in the minimum age for bus drivers was irned down in the Commons last week.
Michael Shersby (Tory, Uxbridge) wanted a minimum age of 0 for driving a public service vehicle with passengers aboard. his, he suggested, would increase the number of qualified rivers and help to provide a realistic career structure for the rivers.
He also believed that allowing 18-year-olds to drive buses iithout passengers would improve the career prospects of ngineers and fitters.
But Transport Under Secretary John Horam resisted the idea. 'he present rules were, he said, sensible in road safety terms, nd while he recognised the problems Mr Shersby mentioned, he .Tould be reluctant to seek to alleviate them in the ways he uggested.
