Imperial Commercials is investing 1 .6m in a Somerset outlet that will offer funding, back-up — and a new marque.

Kevin Swallow reports.

Somerset is the latest area to benefit from Imperial Commercials' continued investment in its dealer network. More than £1.6m will be invested in a new showroom at Frome, Somerset which will also see Imperial Commercials adding Fiat vans to its portfolio.

The purpose-built two-acre outlet, on Imperial Way at Commerce Park, is larger than the current dealership. It is due to be completed in August, replacing existing sites at Frome and Westbury. The firms sell Dafs and a range of used vehicles.

Strong base

David Lewis, Imperial Commercials' regional director, says the company already has a very strong customer base in the area: "This substantial investment in new facilities will enable us to provide an even better service while providing the opportunity to reach out to new customers in the region.

"And our employeeswho will all transter to the new dealership will enjoy outstanding working conditions, which will aid recruitment and staff retention.

"Following that, we will be looking a further developments in Avonmouth and other areas,Lewis reports.

The money will provide seven 20m workshop bays with LGV brake testing, a VDO Siemens digital and analogue tachograph centre, automated Class IV,V and VII MoT testing, an enclosed vehicle valeting area, parts warehousing, and open-plan customer areas.

Finance and backup will be available on-site with all manufacturers catered for as well as finance and lease options, contract hire, truck and van servicing and repairs. MoT testing, and CV and trailer parts supplies.

In the 12 months since Imperial Holdings acquired Lex Commercials and changed its name, there has been heavy investment in supporting its truck dealerships, according to managing director Ian Oakes.

Fast growing

"In less than a year Imperial Commercials has purchased an additional dealership on Deeside near Chester, added the fastgrowing Hino franchise in several locations, and has now made this big investment in the Frome area," he says. "We are looking to expand and develop the business with a commitment to operate sites where truck operators most need the support." •
