• Five arrests and 34 dismissals followed the National Pallet Day held on March 6 this year, when representatives from 21 companies owning pallets swooped on the premises of 37 pallet dealers to look for illegal pallet trading.

The representatives were searching for drivers selling their own companies' pallets without permission.

During the day, 197 vehicles were identified. Whenever pallet trading was

observed, the driver's company was informed, and in 34 cases the companies dismissed their workers.

At one pallet dealer's premises, five arrests were made, following firearms offences, fuel siphoning and illegal pallet dealing, and that case is to be heard at Crown Court in the near future.

Alan French, national security manager with GI(N Chep, says the day was such a success that a second is planned.
