Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Metro-Scania version of the Swedish Scania Bussar "quiet bus" is to be supplied to Leicester City Transport as part of a current order for 17 Metro-Scania integral single-deckers. The bus is due for delivery to Leicester during the summer, but is expected to be on loan to Metro-Cammell Weymann Ltd for demonstration outside Earls Court during the Commercial Motor Show (September 22-30).

Scania Bussar AB, of Katrineholm, Sweden. developed the quiet bus to reduce :he noise level of a new city single-decker to t rated maximum of 77 dBA (CM May 7 [971). Iii practice the normal maximum was found to be 74 dBA when starting from 'est on full power.

The 77 dBA rating of the quiet bus .epresents a noise reduction of well over

50 per cent compared with the current British maximum of 89 dBA. The average noise level of comparable buses operating in Europe is 86 dBA.

The new model is designated the CR 111 M by Scania Bussar, and the reduction in noise level is achieved by total enclosure of the rear-mounted engine, employing two small radiators with lowspeed fans, and forced air cooling of the engine compartment. It is derived from the CR 110 M, which has an average noise level of 84 dBA when starting on full power.

In its British versions, the two models are designated Metro-Scanias, and employ a fully integral body shell built by MetroCammell Weymann Ltd, with engine and running units supplied by Scania Hussar.
