• Durham county council has announced plans for the construction of a transport interchange at Heworth, Felling, in connection with the provision of an underground light railway system on the south side of the River Tyne. The interchange will include a railway station, a system of service roads, bus terminal and multi-storey car park. Felting urban council is objecting to the project on the grounds that it would be a "white elephant and an environmental disaster" to the Heworth area.
