Large Number of Assignments Reported This Week : List 10 Tenderers Now Being Notified

ALTHOUGH there have been no notable purchases of transport units during the past week, a large number of assignments is reported from most of the 10 areas covered this week.

Notification of decisions on tenders submitted for units in list 10, which was suspended during the rail strike, has now been resumed, and the names of the first successful tenderers are given below.

SCOTLAND Another four lorries (13 tons) have gone to A. and W. Hemphill, Ltd., Glasgow.

Repeat purchases have also been made by Mr. Kenneth W. M. Moore, Ayr, of a lorry (61 tons) and a trailer; Mr. Charles W. Michie, Aberdeen, a lorry (31 tons); and Joe Croan (Road Transport), Ltd., Edinburgh, two vehicles, including an articulated outfit (61 tons).

One (3.1 tons) of the vehicles bought by Joe Croan (Road Transport), Ltd., has been made over to Mr, L. C. West, The Broadway, Woking, Surrey.

James Rice and Co., Ltd., Glasgow, have had two lorries (101 tons) made over to them by John Hunter and Son (Transport), Ltd„ Airdrie.

A lorry weighing 31 tons unladen has gone to Mr. James D. Wright, Lockcrbie.

NORTHERN AREA Ten lorries and a trailer acquired by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham, have now been transferred. Six lorries (25 tons 8 cwt.) and the trailer have gone to Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Thornton Street, Collyhurst, Manchester, 9: two lorries (5 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. E. Hibbett. Baslow Street, Manchester, 11; one (3 tons 2 cwt.) to Messrs. E. Nelson and Sons, Trafalgar Garage, Arnside; and one (2 tons 12 cwt.) to Mr. T. Bleasdale, 35 Pioneer Street, Horwich.

A further 11 lorries and seven containers (57 tons 4 cwt.) have been taken over by NorthernAllied Transport and Trading Co., Melkinthorpe, Penrith.

Burn Transport, Ltd., 25 Lingfield Lane, Darlington, have been granted special A licences for two vehicles, including an articulated outfit (9 tons 7 cwt.). The articulated outfit (4 tons 8 cwt.) was assigned by Mr. G. W. Kibler, 20 Greenwich South Street, London, S.E.10.

J. and W. Watt, Ltd., 281 London Road, Carlisle, have been successful with another tender, this time for two lorries (5 tons 14 cwt.). Other repeat purchasers arc: Mr. M. Clark, 2 Violet Street, Sunderland, one vehicle (2 tons 14 cwt.); McPhees (Newcastle), Ltd., City Road Garage, City Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, three (22 tons 11 cwt.); Mr. B. Mandale, The Garage, Greystoke, Penrith, one (5 tons 14 cwt.); W. G. Thomas and Co., Ltd., Whitehouse Garage, Middlesbrough, two (1.31 tons); and Tyneside Transport Co., Cails Buildings, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne, one (3 tons 18 cwt.).

Two lorries (5 tons 9 cwt.) have gone to Mr. J. H. Hitchcock, 59 High Street, Marske-by-Sea, in a first purchase.

The Northern Licensing Authority has also authorized the following assignments: Mr, V. C. Cribb, 55 Swaledale Avenue. Darlington, one vehicle (3 tons 19 cwt) to Cribb's Transport Co.. of the same address; T. Donaldson, Ltd., Rosedale Garage, Warwick Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, one (2 tons 19 cwt.) to Mr. G. A. Dickson, 9 Eastbourne Gardens, Whitley Bay; and Murphy Bros„ Ltd. Melton Lane, Syston, Leics. two (61 tons; to W. S. Donaghy, Ltd., 40 Park Road, West Hartlepool.

c22 NORTH-WEST Four lorries (16 tons) have gone to J. V. Witham and Sons, Ltd., 22 Straits Lane, Read, near Burnley. Two other first purchasers are Mr. J. S. Hodgkinson, Myerscough Lodge, St. Michaels Road, Bilsborrow, near Preston, !who has bought two lorries (14 tons); and Mr. J. R. Freeman, 4 Melville Road, Bispham, Blackpool, two (11 tons). One of three lorries (9 tons) bought by Mr. J. M. Arthur, 1 Minhafren, Aberhafesp, Mont, hi!s been transferred to Mr. T. L. Tomlins, in the West Midland Traffic Area. It has an unladen weight of 3 tons.

A direct purchase involving a lorry of 31 tons has been made by Mr. S. M. Emanueldeen, 98 Seymour Grove; Manchester, 16.

YORKSHIRE Nine lorries and four articulated outfits have been transferred to Mason Bros. (Haulage and Storage), Ltd., WaltonGarage, Rotherham, by Messrs. Mason Bros., Park Farm Garage, South Kirkby, near Pontefract..

Vehicles have 'also been transferred by : Mr. J. Bell, Stacey Road Garage, Mansfield, one to Messrs. Dales Bros., 15 Victoria Street, Dinnington; Mr. J. EAST .MIDLANDS E. E. Bamford (Contractors), Ltd., Mansfield Road Garage, Atfreton, have been granted special A licences for a further nine vehicles, including an articulated outfit. Five of the lorries (40 tons 12 cwt.) were transferred by Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston, Leicester, and the remainder (16 tons 2 cwt.) by Mr. E. E. Bamford, also of Alfreton. Murphy 3ros., Ltd., have also made over vehicles to the following: one (21 tons) to Murphy Bros. (Transport Division), Ltd., 6-8 Selborne Street, Loughborough; one (7 tOns 9 cwt.) to Mr. A. Hodgson, in the Metropolitan . Traffic Area ; one (81 tons) to Painter and Brennan, Ltd.. 4 Lane Ends, Oakerthorpe; one (61 tons) to ABC Motor Carriers (Wigston), Ltd., South Wigston; two (7 tons I cwt.) to Simpson's Haulage (Leicester), 'Ltd., Bridge House, • The Newarke. Leicester; two (8 tons 11 cwt.) to Mr. J. R. Dunkerley, 19 High Street, Chipping Sodhuryi, and one (4 tons 4 cwt.) to Mr. S. Cooke, in the Yorkshire Traffic Area.

Three of the lorries (11 tons 18 cwt.) transferred by Murphy Bros., Ltd., Were assigned by Mr. R. S. Hamblin, Olney, Leicester Road, Thurmaston. Mr. R. D. Hamblin, Rectory Road, Rushden, has made over a lorry (7 tons 18 cwt.) to Seamarks (Motors), Ltd., of the same address. More vehicles have been added to the fleet run by J. B. Coleman (Haulage), Ltd., Glen Road. Oadby, Leicester. Three, including an articulated outfit (17 tons 3 cwt.), were transferred by Mr. J. B. Coleman, of the same address; two (14 tons 18 cwt.) by Little Haywood Transport Co., Ltd., 39 Park Street. Burton-on-Trent; and one (7 tons 2 cwt.) by Henry Joyner, Ltd., 322 Shortheath Road, Erdington, Birmingham. Vicker's Transport Co. (Peterborough), Ltd., 36 St. Leonard's Street, Peterborough, have taken over two lorries (61 tons) from Mr. V. J. Grange, 124 Bridge Street, Peterborough; and two (6 tons 16 cwt.) from Mr. C. Grace, 4 Chapel Lane, South Elmsall.

Mr. Grange has also transferred a lorry (3 tons) to Mr. C. Saxton, 45 Stainsby Avenue, Heanor, and Mr. Grace one (3 tons 2 cwt.) to Messrs. Orchard Storage and Distribution Services, 6 James Street, Kimberley.

Kays (Derby), Ltd., Ashbourne Road, Derby, have sold five more ex-B.R.S. lorries. Four (16 tons 18 cwt.) have gone to Messrs. Illsley Bros., Victoria Avenue, Borrowash, Derby, and one (4 tons) to Mr. C. Archer, 204 Derby Road, Marehay, near Ripley.

A lorry (4f tons) assigned to him by J. and E Kenny, Ltd., 31 Scotney Street, Peterborough, has now been transferred by Mr. J. Brindley, The Close, Shamford, Hinckley, to Clayton's Transport, Ltd., 35-41 St. Michael's Avenue, Leicester.

Mr. J. T. Cross, Park Road, Hartwell, has transferred two lorries. One (2 tons 18 cwt.) has gone to Mr. P. Bletsoe-Brown, The Thatched Cottage, Sywell, and the other (2 tons 18 cwL) to Mr. T. Warren, Thrift Farm, Wappenham, near Towcester.

Direct purchases have been made by: Mr. F. W. L. Ellis. Southroyds, Oldcotes, Worksop, five lorries and five containers (28 tons 3 cwt.); London and Carfax Contract Services, Ltd., 38 Great St. Helens. Slawson, Ltd., 45 Gleneagles Avenue, Leicester, four (14 tons 11 cwL); Mr. T. B. Lees, 32 Recreation Road, Bourne, one (3 tons 13 cwt.); Mr. E. N. Rogers, 24 Main Road, Dunston, one (6 tons 3 cwt.); Mr. R. F. Evison, New York, near Boston, one (4 tons 12 cwt.); Mr. H. Fenwick, Wildsworth, near Gainsborough. one (3 tons 4 cwt.); Mr. B. E. One of two lorries (9 tons 12 cwt.) bought by Mr. F. Rainbow, 16 New Bridge Street. Leicester. has been made over to Messrs. Ward Bros., Middleton Street, Aylestone. It has an unladen weight a 4 tons 18 cwt.

EASTERN COUNTIES Ten lorries (821 tons), based in Norwich, licensed to Comberhill Motors, Ltd., Olympia Garage, Ings Road, Wakefield, Yorks, have been assigned to Murphy Bros., Ltd., Syston, Leicester.

0. G. Barnard and Sons. Ltd., Station Road, Stowmarket, are involved in more assignments. A lorry (4f tons) made over to them by Messrs. Page Bros., Stoneland House, Capel St. Mary, has been re-assigned to Mr. E. R. Charles, Scaltback Stud, Newmarket. They have also transferred vehicles to Mr. A. A. Griggs, The Travellers Rest., Soham, one (71 tons); Messrs. R. W. Wright and D. Baldry, Brick Kiln, Badingham, one (3 tons); Messrs. Warner's Transport, 49 Tollgate Lane, Bury St. Edmunds, three (10f tons); and Orwell Roadways (Ipswich), Ltd., 10 Gt. Colman Street, Ipswich, one (61 tons).

Eye Haulage Co., Ltd., Bell House Garage, Eye, have taken over a trailer (5 tons) from Allison's Transport (Contracts), Ltd6 Balfield Road, Dundee. Mr. W. H. Sexton, Sear., Bottles Hall, Elmstead, has transferred three lorries (101 tons) to Mr. W. H. Sexton, Junr., of the same address.

Yoxford Transport Co., London Road, Yoxford, have bought a vehicle (31 tons) from C. and F. Warren, Ltd., 76-78 West Street, Rochford.

Four more lorries (81 tons) have gone to Welch's Transport, Ltd., Stapleford. Two of these (51 tons) have been trans ferred to Mr. D. A. Elbourn, Orchard House, Melbourn. Another lorry (3f tons) has gone to B. and B. (Lowestoft), Ltd., Wollaston Road, Lowestoft.

SOUTH WALES A special A licence for a lorry (2f tons) issued to Messrs. Parfitt Bros., Pennant Garage, Ebbw Vale, has been revoked on the transfer of the vehicle to an ordinary A licence.

WESTERN AREA Two locally based lorries (6 tons 7 cwt.) have been taken over by Reliance Motor Transport (Leeds), Ltd., Broadmead Lane, Keynshatn. Mr. A. R. Bird, 149 Badminton Road, Downend, Bristol, has bought a lorry (3 tons 15 cwL). A special A licence has also been granted to Mr. E. V. Cheyney, West Road, Bridport, for one vehicle (2 tons 19 cwt.) assigned by Mr. C. H. Baulch, 66 Dunch Lane, Melksham. Mr. Baulch has also made over a lorry (2 tons 9 cwL) to The Warminster Motor. Co., Ltd., Melkshani. Repeat purchases have been made by Messrs. Massey and Wilcox, 2 Coombe End, Radstock, Gurney Slade, of two vehicles (3 tons 19 cwt.); Messrs. Patten Bros., Cudworth, Ilminster, one (4 tons 17 cwt.); The Warminster Motor Co., Ltd., 21 George Street, Warminster, eight (37 tons 7 cwt.); Mr. E. Tucker, East Reach, Taunton, one (3 tons 19 cwt); Mr. W. H. Foot, 21 George Street, Warminster, four vehicles (21 tons 17 cwt.) and a trailer; and Mr. G. Read, Cuckoo Patch, Mitcheldean, five vehicles (14 tons 18 cwt.). Four of the lorries (16 tons 8 cwt.) taken over by The Warminster Motor Co., Ltd., were transferred by Mr. J. Brindley, Shamford, near Hinckley, Leicester. Mr. Tucker has transferred his purchase to John Bull (Bristol) Butchers, Ltd., 72 Stapleton Road, Bristol, who have also taken over a lorry (2 tons 19 cwt.) from Messrs. R. J. Hardwick and J. R. Parsons, 232 Fishponds Road, Bristol. Two-vehicle purchases have been made by Mr. C. H. Baulch, Forton Road, Chard (6 tons 4 cwt.), and Mr. G. G. F. Pearce, Claverham Garage, Claverham (6 tons 9 cwt.). A lorry has gone to each of the following: S. and A. Stone, Ltd., 29 Lansdown Road, Bristol (3 tons 4 cwt.); Mr. W. E. Smith, 181 High Street, Hanham, Bristol (2 tons 19 cwt.); and Messrs. F. Young and Sons, Chalk Hill, Shrewton (2 tons 19 cwt.).

Messrs. A. Griffiths and Son, Parsons Road, Gloucester, have transferred a lorry (4 tons 16 cwt.) to Messrs. M. E. Field and Son, High Street, Newent, Glos.

SOUTHERN AREA Another lorry and a trailer (71 tons) have been purchased by Mr. E. A. A. Foot, St. Leonards, Ringwood. T. Hunt and Sons, Ltd., whose address is not known, have acquired two lorries (51 tons), and Mrs. P. A. Budgett, Whatcombe, %Vantage, one (41 tons).

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES With the resumption of the notification of decisions in list 10, Mr. L. Heatley (Thornetts Depository), 79 Craven Park Road, London, N.W.10, has been informed that his tender for Swanley Village unit 6304 has been accepted. The purchase comprises a van (1 ton).

J. and H. Transport Services (Peckham), Ltd., I la Seldcn Road, London, S.E.15, have successfully tendered for two widely separated one-vehicle lots in list 10. Both vehicles are eight-wheelers; one, based in Glasgow (unit 6747), is a van with an unladen weight of 8 Ions 6 cwt., and the other—Dudley unit 6389,—a lorry (7 tons 11 cwt.).

A. D. Thompson, Ltd., 273 Pentonville Road, King's Cross, London, N.1, have transferred a lorry (3 ..tons) to Mr. 14. Elliott, 150 Pentonville Road, London, N.1; and Mr. T. H. Prince, 44 Arpley Street, Warrington, Lanes, one (8 tons 1 cwt.) to P. D. Sleeman, Ltd., 91 Cowley Road, Uxbridge.

Five more lorries (15 tons) have been acquired by Messrs. F. A. Madgwick and Son, Haslemere? Surrey.

Mr. H. E. Tippen, who is now trading as Messrs. F. W. Tipper; and Sons, High Street, Morden, has taken over another two lorries (61 tons). Mr. M. J. Bennett, 177 London Road, Camberley, has taken over his first lorry (31 tons) from B.R.S. Another lorry (3 tons) and a trailer (21 tons) have gone to Amey's Transport (Oxford), Ltd., Besselsleigh Road, Abingdon. Mr. P. H. Waters, Sunnyside, Wheeler Street, Fritterden, has been granted a special A licence for a lorry (3 tons) by the South-Eastern Licensing Authority. Messrs. Aitken's Transport, 49 Blair Road, Coatbridge, Lanarks, have taken over a lorry (3 tons), based in London, from Mr. L T. Redbum, Stockingswater Lane, Brimsdown, Middx.
