Vybak DVB 229, for use in making machine guards, protective screens and windows, has been introduced by Bakelite, Ltd., 12-18 Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1. It is based on P.V.C. resin, and is non-inflammable and resistant to water, chemicals and oils.
Major features are its resilience and ability to withstand much mechanical abuse without shattering. Vybak is available in standard sizes, 50 in. by 26 in and 50 in. by 40 in., in thicknesses ot in. and in., both surfaces being highly polished.
Slight curves can be made when fitting but sharper curves may be formed by warming the sheet.
Metal Edges Protected ADECORATIVE strip known as Piansel Auto Edge which can be used for protecting and embellishing bare metal edges is now available from Creators, Ltd.,Plansel Works, Sheerwater, Woking. Surrey.
The strip, which is of sprung, halfround section tapered, consists of a thin layer of polished metal foil covered internally and externally with tough transparent plastics. This gives an appearance similar to that of chromium plating, but has the advantage of being proof against scratches and tarnishing. Retail prices for the two sizes available are 2s. and ls. 6d. per ft.
Cleaner Sucks up Liquids AN industrial vacuum cleaner capable of picking up liquids in addition to dust and dirt is now marketed by Martindale Electric Co., Ltd., Westmorland Road. London, N.W.9. It is known as the Martinet Wet-Dry Suction Pick-up, and can be used to clean the interiors of passenger vehicles and to pick up oil and dirt from engines or other machinery.
The equipment consists of a standard Martindale portable blower mounted on a rustproof 4-gal. tank having a tricycle undercarriage, with filter bag, hose anc suction-tool attachments. The cleaner will operate off A.C. or D.C., 100-130v. and 200-250v.
Quick Hose Coupling AHOSE coupling for use with lowand medium-pressure compressed air and fluids is now obtainable from Airtech, Ltd., Haddenham, Bucks. Normal working pressure is up to 250 p.s.i.
Among the advantages claimed are that no preparation of the hose end is required, no tools are necessary for fitting or removing the hose, and varying Wall thicknesses can be accommodated on a coupling suitable for a given inside diameter of hose. The average time needed to make a joint is stated to he 10 seconds.
Coloured P.V.C. Tape FOR identification, insulation and protective purposes, p.v.e. selfadhesive tape in a range of colours Jind widths from in. to 1 in. by i-in. increments, is being marketed under the name of Lassovic by Smith and Nephew, Ltd., Bessemer Road. Welwyn Garden City. Herts.

Engine Overhaul Described APART from the fact that one drawing appears to be upside down, the fourth edition of " Automobile Engine Overhaul," by A. W. Judge (Sir Isaac Pitman and Sons, Ltd., 15s. net), gives commendable coverage of a complex subject by copious illustration and easily understood text.
It gives directions for the complete dismantling, overhaul and reassembling of many types of engine, and covers general Maintenance, tuning and lubrication. However, it suffers from the usual draw,back of such publications, in that much generalization is necessary.
