Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

At last week's annual meeting of Bradford Commercial Vehicle Owners Federation, Mr. Edward Smith was reelected chairman. The following officials were also re-elected: vice-presidents, Messrs. J. Thompson and F. croft; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. W. Turner ; hon. secretary, Mr. Fred Pickering.

There was a consensus of opinion in support of opposition to the introduction of Grade I wages in the area, and to the continuation in the permanent settlement of certain conditions, including the 48-hour guaranteed week, a compulsory week's holiday with pay, and the payment of higher rates to drivers entering a district in a wages grade higher than that of their own.

C.M.U.A.-A.R.O. Merger?

We understand that an important meeting of the C.M.U.A. will be held, next Wednesday, to discuss negotiations which have been proceeding between its representatives and A.R.O.

C.M.U.A. Keeps Busy.

The .goods-vehicle licensing scheme and the manner in which it affects operators will be explained by Mr. S. Preece, at an open meeting, arranged by the C.M.U.A., at the White Lion Hotel, Stockport, at 7.30 p.m., on January 29. The annual general meeting of the Manchester area will be held at the Milton Hall, Manchester. on January 27, at 7.30 p.m. On January 30, at 7.30 p.m., the annual meeting of the Crewe branch takes place at the Royal Hotel, Crewe, when Mr. J. Jackson and Mr. Preece will speak on wages,

A.R.O. Activity at Wigan.

At an A.R.O. meeting at the Wheatsheaf Hotel, Wigan, on January 30, at 7.30 p.m... an address will be given by Mr. j Wyndham Gibbs,

Shropshire Hauliers Organize.

A new organization, to be known as the Shropshire Hauliers Association, has been formed in the Wellington area, and will undertake traffic court and other work for operators. The secretary is Mr. Leonard Ross, F.C.A., F.S.A.A., Walker Street Chambers, Wellington.

Further A.R.O. Meetings.

To-night (Friday) at 7.45 p.m., a meeting of members of A.R.O. will be held at the Albion Hotel, Worcester. On January 31, a meeting has been arranged at Devizes, and will be held at the Elm Tree Hotel, at 7.30 p.m.

Mr. R. W. Sewill, national director, will address a public meeting on February 3, at St. Albans Town Hall, at 8 p.rn.

B.R.F. Reply to Questionnaire.

The British Road Federation has issued an important reply to the recent questionnaire sent out by the Association of British Chambers of Commerce. Considerations of space prevent us dealing with it in this issue, but reference is made to the traffic-rates increase resulting from the formation of the Northern Ireland Board.
