HONG KONG has taken the first step towards the establishment of a central co-ordinating transport office. Mr. Y. K. Kan, chairman of the Colony's newly appointed Transport Advisory Committee, says the Committee will replace and absorb the functions of the Traffic Advisory Committee and the Advisory Committe on Public Transport. It will also be required to advise the Governor on the co-ordination, improvement and 'development of all internal transport facilities in the Colony. Mr. D. C. Bray. who has been appointed the first Commissioner for Transport, said "Our first job will be to get together with the police and work out a system for taking over the licensing, testing and other transportation responsibilities which form part of police operations at the moment." The establishment of the new Committee followed a year-long traffic survey conducted by a team of experts from Britain's Road Research Laboratory.
