iT is understood from a reliable source that Murphy Bros., Ltd., Melton Road, Syston, Leicester, who have assigned to other operators most of the vehicles they have purchased so far, have bought the Loughborough depot of British Road Services, including 33 vehicles (225 tons) and are to run it under their own banner.

The depot, which is based in Selbourrie Street, comprises offices, a .warehouse, workshop and parking facilities. Included in the operative fleet are eight eight-wheelers, six six-wheelers and a van. There are four additional vehicles.

Grantham Road Services, Ltd., who were successful with their tender for the Grantham depot of B.R.S., have already moved into the premises in Harlaxton Road and have commenced operating regular services to London and Lancashire. .

Eleven oil-engined vehicles with carrying capacities up to 10 tons were included in the unit. One of the special A licence vehicles is articulated, and there is a spare. Total unladen weight is 31 tons.

Managing director of Grantham Rdad Services is Mr. A. C. Nokes, late manager of the South Lines Group of B.R.S. Mr. G. Horton. who was super intendent of the depot under has joined the company. Other directors are Mr. J. R. Lee and Mr. W. R. Lee. Further purchases of units are reported below. .

NORTHERN AREA A special A licence has been granted by the Northern Licensing Authority to Mr. A. W. Johnston, The Green, Westlinton, Carlisle, for two vehicles and two containers (9 tons 8 cwt.).

R.A.H. Transporters, Ltd., 28 Side, Newcastle upon Tync, have been assigned two vehicles (9 tons 3 cwt.) by B. and M. Transport (Northern), Ltd. Pipewellgate, Gateshead.

H. Peacock, Ltd., 49-50 John Street, Sunderland, have had one vehicle (2 tons 19 cwt.) made over to them by Layfield Transport Services, Ltd., Britannia Street, Thornaby-on-Tees.

Mr. M. Forster, Broomhaugh, Riding Mill, has assigned one vehicle (2 tons 11 cwt.) to Messrs. M., T. L., and E. B. Forster (M. Forster and Sons), of the same address.

H. B. Hellon, Ltd. Woodend, Bigrigg, have taken over a vehicle (3 tons 3 cwt.) from Mr. J. Johnston, Solway House, Gilcrux, Aspatria.

NORTH-WEST Thirty-one vehicles (147 tons) have been transferred to Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Thornton Street, Manchester, 9, by Mr. A. Cusick, 282 Frederick Street, Oldham. Ten vehicles and a trailer have been re-assigned as follows: one (31 tons) to Messrs. T. and J. P. Pownall (J. and T. Pownall), Silverdale, Grove Road, Mollington, near Chester; one (3/ tons) to Wm. Smith (Hollinwood), Ltd., Albert B6 Mills, Hollinwood, Oldham; one (71 tons) to J. Holgate, Ltd., Dale Terrace, Chatburn; one (23 tons) to Mr. W. 3. Chapman, 16 Taunton Grove, Kirkhams, Prestwich, Manchester; a vehicle and a trailer (71 tons) to Mr. E. Sykes, 31 Mossley Road, Ashton-under-Lyne; one vehicle (3 tons) to R. F. Gasking (Contractors), Ltct, Church Lane, Lydiate, near Liverpool; one (3 tons), based at Manchester, to J. Monk and Co., 66 Northampton Street, Leicester; one (41 tons) to Mr. P. Priesttier, Porch House Farm, Higher Walton, near Warrington; one (3 tons) to Mr. E. W. D. Wadsworth. 44 Feathers Street, Flint; and one (5 tons) to Messrs. N. and L. Watson (Norman Watson and Co.), 83 Ramsden Road, Wardle, Rochdale, Hacketts Haulage, Ltd., 229 Cross Lane, Salford, 5, who have bought 15 vehicles (51) tons), have made over 12 (39 tons) to J. W. Fieldsend, Ltd., at the same address. Fieldsend have re-assigned seven—One (31 tons) to Mr. J. Hesketh, 169 Cromwell Road, Patricroft, Manchester; one (31 tons) to Messrs. W. H. Travis and L. Farrington (Crampoon Haulage Co.), 41 Whiston Road, Manchester, 8; one (3 tons) to Mr. N. O'Hara, Spennymoor, in the Northern Traffic Area; and two (6 tons) to Blue Bird Garages (Hull), Ltd., Hull; one (33 tons)• to M. Lodge and Co., Ltd., Wakefield; and one (4 tons) to R. Hanson and Son, Ltd., Wakefield, all in the Yorkshire Traffic Area.

Queensgate Motors, Ltd., Rydal House, Longrkige, Preston, have transferred four vehicles and a trailer (211 tons) to Queensgate Motors (1954), Ltd., Longridge. The North Western Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to Mr.. H. Mayne, 92 Whitland Road, Fairfield, Liverpool, 6, for one vehicle (3 tons), assigned by Mr. J. Dodd, Liverpool; and Thomas Guy, Ltd., Black Horse Farm, Burscough, three (111 tons) assigned by Mr. T. Guy, of the same address.

YORKSHIRE Mr. Ernest Crabtree, Queensbury, Bradford, has bought 10 more B.R.S. vehicles, and has assigned them as follows: Bee and Jay (Parcels), Ltd., Cranby Street, Bradford, one (2 tons 7 cwt.); Mr. Frank Jackson, Wakefield Road, Dewsbury, one (2 tons 191 cwt.); W. F. MeQuire and Sons, Ltd., Burton Road, Leeds, one (2 tons 19 cwt.); Messrs. C. P. and J. D. Moore (P. Moore and Son), Market Weighton, one (3 tons 6 cwt.); Mr. R. H. Petty, Sherrif Lane, Eldwick, Bingley, one (3 tons 4 cwt); W. F. Wight, Ltd., Lawns Lane, Leeds, 10, four (10 tons 17 cwt.); and Yardley Transport, Ltd., Spa Buildings, Leeds, one (3 tons 16 cwt.).

Messrs. Gees Transport, The Garage, Outlane, Huddersfield, have assigned four vehicles (18 tons 2 cwt.) and four trailers to J. T Gees Transport, Ltd., of the same address.

Seventeen vehicles (53 tons 8 cwt.) have been purchased by Parkers (Lincoln) Tours, Ltd., Cross Lane, Salford.

F. Heaton and Sons (Transport), Ltd., Toftshaw Garage, East Bierley, have acquired four vehicles (26 tons) made over to them by Mr. Frank Heaton, of the same address. Six vehicles (35 tons 10 cwt.) have been bought by Leonard Green (Haulage), Ltd., Parkgate, Rotherham, and one vehicle (3 tons 17 cwt.) by Mr. John Brindley, Shamford, Hinckley, Leics. Mr. B. E. Senior, Bennett Street, Rotherham, has assigned two vehicles (5 tons 18 cwt.) to Mr, Ernest Senior, of the same address.

WEST munAnins

With the exception of Mr. F. Oliver, 25 Park Road, Quarry Bank, Brierley Hill, who has bought two vehicles (83 tons), all the purchasers of vehicles from British Road Services listed by the West Midland Licensing Authority last week have bought units before.

Robertson, Buckley and Co., Ltd., George Street, Liverpool, have been granted a special A licence for two vehicles (63 tons) based at Birmingham.

Beresford Transport, Ltd., High Street, Tunstall, who have had three vehicles (153 tons) and a trailer made over to. them by Mr, K. Beresford, Dunkirk Farm, Bignall End, Stoke-on-Trent, have re-assigned them as follows: One (51 tons) to F. Wardle (Haulage), Ltd., Lymm, neat Warrington; one (44 tons) to Messrs. J. and A. Turnock, 59 Hillport Avenue, Porthill; and one (5 tons) and the trailer to Riley's Transport (Allostock), Ltd., Scholar Green, near Congleton.

Mr. James Frost, James Street Garage, Wolstanton, has had one vehicle (7 tons) transferred to him by Condon Wild, Ltd., Chattertey House, Leek Road, Hanley.

Special A licences have also been granted to Mr. A. H. Green (Green's Transport), Andlem Road, Woore, for a tractor (21 tons) and semi-trailer; Mr. G H. Powell, Pentatoe, Mordiford, Hereford, one vehicle (33 tons); Mr. H. L. Robinson. 34 Hampton Dene Road, Tupsley, Hereford, one (8 tons); Giaymer's (Transport), Ltd., Barr Common Road, Walsall, one (3/ tons); and Messrs. W. P. Barlow and Son, 28 Charles Street, Biddulph, a tanker (41 tons).

EASTERN COUNTIES Eight vehicles, inchiding an articulated outfit (241 tons), have been taken over in a first purchase made by Mr. F. A. Andrews (Yoxford Transport Co.), London Road, Yoxford, Suffolk.

Mr. G. Parker, Station Road, Surfleet, Lines, who already has three lorries, has purchased another five (181 tons).

Turners (Soham), Ltd., Hall Street, Sohatn, Combs, have bought another four vehicles and four containers with a total unladen weight of 181 tons. Special A licences have also been issued by the Eastern Licensing Authority to Mrs. A. A. Gotohecl, New House, West Pinchbeck, for one vehicle (3 tons), and Mr. M. Rose, Tilney St. Lawrence, Norfolk, for four (12 tons). Mr. Rose has assigned two of his vehicles. One (31 tons) has gone to Mr. H. E. Doughty, 3 Lynn Road, West Lynn, and one (3 tons) to Mr. E. J. Saunders, Lynn Road, Clenchwarton. Two lorries (6 tons) have been transferred to Mr. D. J. Thomas, Courier House, Elizabeth Terrace, Wisbeeh, by Murphy Bros., Ltd., Mekon Road, Syston, near Leicester. Greenwoods (Contractors), Ltd., Bury Road, Ramsey, Hunts, who, as reported on December 10, have taken over two vehicles (51 tons) from Rand and Brunt, Ltd., Welwyn Garden City, Hens, have had another (3 tons) made over to them by Mr. G. L Taylor, 110a Brantford Road, Ipswich.

SOUTHERN AREA Arney's Aggregates, Ltd., Lower Woot ton, Boar's Hill, who were granted a special A licence in September for a vehicle and a trailer, have bought another eight vehicles and five trailers (401 tons). Of these, seven vehicles and four trailers (35/ tons) have been made over to Messrs. W. C. Amey and Son, Abingdon, Berks.

Repeat purchases have been made by

Dor-to-Dor Carriers (Brighton), Ltd., 70a St. James Street, Brighton. Seven vehicles and three trailers are concerned in the latest. Three (63 tons) are based at Brighton, two vehicles and two trailers (81 tons) at Lewes, and two vehicles and a trailer (61 tons) at Bognor Regis.

Mr. J. G. Hutchens, Parkstone, Dorset, has had two vehicles (7/ tons) transferred to him by Mr. W. H. Foot, 2 Parkstone Road, Poole, Dorset.

The South Eastern Licensing Authority has also granted special A licences to Mr. 11. J. Cutler, Hampreston, Wimbome, for four vehicles (Ill tons); Mr. J. J. &lam, Hellingly, two (6 tons); and Mr. F. A. Wiltshire, Reading, one (3 tons).

The transfer by Mr. Wiltshire of two vehicles to Heanor Coal and Haulage Co., Ltd., 125 Hands Road, Heanor, Derbys, was reported last week. The vehicles had an unladen weight of 51 tons.

LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Mr. E. &ruby, 252 Raeburn Avenue, Surbiton, has bought three vehicles (25 tons) and three trailers in a first purchase. Other new purchasers are 20th Century Transport Ltd., 4 Carlisle Avenue, London, E.C.3, four vehicles (13 tons 8 cwt.), and Messrs. F. and R. Sims, Arlington Cottage, North Holmwood, Dorking, one (3 tons). Ten vehicles and two trailers (361 tons) have been taken over by Mr. C. W. Thorp, 27 Dclf Street. Sandwich.

Messrs. W. S. J. and G. E. Bull (W. J. Bull and Son), 116 Victoria Road, Rom.. ford, Essex, have bought three vehicles (9 tons 6 cwt.) and three trailers from Mr. W. Parrish, of the same address, and two vehicles (6 tons 3 cwt.) and two trailers from Mr. J. Eaton, 119 Fairholme Avenue, Gidea Park, Essex

Hauliers who have been successful with further tenders are A. Paeltham and Co., Ltd., 60 Highbury Grove, London, N.5, three vehicles (7 tons 18 cwt.) and three trailers, and Davis Bros. (Haulage), Ltd., 123 Solebay Street, London, E.3, one vehicle (3 tons).

May's Motors (Transport), Ltd., Thursley Road, Elstead, have been successful with a tender for a vehicle and a trailer (51 tons).

Among successful tenderers in List 8 arc Mr. F. Smart, 49 Felix Road, London, W.13, who has bought unit 5194, a Luton van based at Brentford; Mr. F. A. Madgewick, Haslemere, Surrey, who has purZhased unit 5143, a vehicle based at Aldingbourne; and H. Freemantle, Ltd., Cranley, Surrey, buyers of unit 5146, art articulated vehicle based at Aldingbourne, and unit 5314, a vehicle of 4 tons, based at Brighton.
