MR. WILLIAM WEBB, of the West Midland Gas Board, has been appointed outside transport manager of Alcestcr Co-operative Society.
MR, HAROLD A. Swim has been reelected chairman of the Birmingham Centre of the Motor and Cycle Trades Benevolent Fund, and MR. C. GILBER1 SMITH, vice-chairman.

DR. C. I. SMITHELLS, director of research of the British Aluminium Co., Ltd., has been awarded the platinum medal of the Institute of Metals in recognition of his services to metallurgical science.
MR. A. H. GEORGE, South of England service manager of the tyre division of the Dunlop Rubber Co., Ltd,, has been appointed service manager of the original equipment and racing division at Fort Dunlop, where he will be directly responsible to MR. H. E. PRICE, local director.. Mr. George recently returned from a visit to North America.

MR. A. A. HAMPSON has been appointed a special director of the Standard Motor Co., Ltd. His title is director of planning.
MR, ALEX FRASER, managing director of Girling, Ltd., returned last week from an 18,000-mile visit to South Africa. He found that British commercial vehicles had gained in prestige in the past year or two. He said that Girling, Ltd., had done twice as much business in South Africa during the past 12 months as in the previous year.
LORD HIVES has relinquished the position of joint managing director of RollsRoyce, Ltd., but remains executive chairman. MR. A. G. Eworr has also relinquished his joint managing directorship, and his post as chief engineer, to become executive vice-chairman. DR. F. LLEWELLYN SMITH has been appointed managing director of the motorcar division. MR. A. A. RURBRA has become technical director and MR. A. F. KELLEY has joined the board. MR. D. R. McDoNALD has succeeded MR, G. D. L.
