Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Officials from the Transport & General Workers union will meet this weekend to discuss tactics in their campaign to improve conditions for drivers at P&O Roadtanks and Wincanton. National officers will meet shop stewards from the two companies at Coryton, Essex to assess the companies' views on extending running times, synchronising pay for the same work and guaranteeing at least 12 hours' rest in every 24 hours. P&O and Wincanton had appeared reluctant to meet the union and earlier this month officials issued a public ultimatum threatening possible strike action if driver conditions were not improved (CM 3-9 April). Since then meetings have been held with both companies. Any agreements will directly affect around 100 P&O drivers and 100 Wincanton drivers based in Essex. The union wants the two companies to adopt such deals nationally. :iDiscussion between the TGWU and NFC's Tankfreight are also underway. So far a deal has only been struck with BP, covering 160 inhouse drivers.
