On 2-4 May the RHA's annual TipCon show makes its final Harrogate appearance after 22 years at the Yorkshire venue—next year the show will move to the G-MEX exhibition centre in Manchester. Despite the depressed tipper market, there will be enough new products to ensure that the show leaves Harrogate with a bang, not a whimper.

• MAN's 26.264 is hot off the presses for TipCon with the Germans making a late entry into the fix4 market (CM 17-23 April). Based on the M2000 17tonne chassis, it will only be available in one specification. That means the smaller "L" cab, 260hp 6.8-litre engine and Hendrickson rubber suspension at the back. The prototype on show will be have a WBS Aggregate King pressed-aluminium body. Edbro front-end tipping gear and PM

On-Board weighing equipment.

Fruehauf says it is staging

its biggest ever Harrogate display. Taking centre stage will be its new smooth-sided tipping trailer. Two models are available: a smooth-sided hulk body and a side and underfloor insulated body for asphalt and aggregate operations. Bodies are clad in 0,9mm-thick aluminium with a pressed bottom rail section to offer added resistance to damage from bucket loader front wheels. The bottom rail can be replaced without removing the side cladding which is bolted on for ease of repair. On show will be a 60yd3 air-suspended triaxle model with lifting front axle and Maywood onboard weighing gear. Fruehauf

products will

Hyva, PME and Edbro stands. Three Volvo chassis will

make their show debuts at TipCon. The new light 11626 6x4 with a supercharged turbo-diesel engine extends Volvo's existing 6x4 range. The company believes this chassis will have particul(a;

appeal f refuse and mixer operators as the supercharger offers lower engine operating speeds for PT0s. Also on the stand will be the FL12 8x4 with its latest 340hp power rating, joining the 380 which was launched in 1995.

Volvo has local authorities in mind for its latest truck, the 7.5-tonne Perkins-powered FLC. The show model will be fitted with Mackworth three-way tipping body and Edbro tipping gear.

Scania's 4-Series tippers will also make their first appearance at TipCon. Among the 6x4 and 8x4 exhibits will be a P124 360 eight-legger in the livery of Preston operator Walter Carefoot and Sons. Its fleet includes five eightwheelers, all with sleeper-cabs, as dri vers regularly spend nights away. Used for salt, coal and hazardous waste loads, the chassis are equipped to ADR regs with full fire extinguisher equipment on board.

Tipping gear

ERF's stand will include a sleeper-cabbed eight-wheeler in the livery of Alan Price and Sons (Bargoed). The EC12 is powered by a Perkins Tx2000 engine. Other features include Hendrickson rubber rear suspension, a PPG bulk body and Hyva tipping gear.

Hyva's stand will include tipping gear designed for 7.5tonners. The new design carries Hyva's standard two-year warranty.

Both Dunlop and Bandvulc will be showing new tyres at Haffogate.

Dunlop will launch its SP231 385/65 R22.5 wide-single trailer tyre, designed principally for tipping trailers in on/off road applications. Joining its "Repro Plusretread range is the 295/80 R22.5 onioff road SP811. A broad kerbing band on both sides of the tyre should make it attractive for landfill and quarry operations.

Bandvulc will enter the tipper tyre market with its Tippertnaster re-tread range, following the success of its Wastemaster tyre. Based on known-brand casings, the Tippermaster's patent design has lateral grooves to combat stone trapping and an unusual tread pattern with "lots of round bits", says the company.

Rockinger fifth-wheel and couplings importer Alexander Marcar will show its improved 500 Series drawbar coupling. The changes are said to address possible maintenance problems, caused by dirt penetration, especially with low-set couplings.

Actuation

US PTO manufacturer Muncie Power Products will launch its products in the UK at TipCon. They include the TG Powertlex PTO which can handle up to 2841bft (385Nm) of torques.

Actuation is by lever, cable, air or electrically. UK distributor Driveline Systems will also be exhibiting three PTOs designed for the Allison World Series transmission.

Tecalemit's air operated Inte.rlube XGS automatic chassis lubrication system is the most popular for tipper chassis; the entire Inte.riube range, suitable for rigids and artics, will be on show at Harrogate.
