Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A PASSENGER board to represent

practically the whole of the NorthWestern Area (except North Wales) was formed at a meeting in Manchester, last week.

'A tremendous step forward was made at this meeting and, if other areas will follow the same procedure, it will not be long before the merger is an accomplished fact throughout the country," said Mr. B. Winterbottom (East Lancs A.R.O. hon. secretary), after the meeting. Mr. Winterbottom was elected temporary secretary to the new board.

Committees of the passenger organizations in Manchester, Liverpool, Oldham, Bolton, Southport, Swinton, Mossley, Morecambe, Preston, Wigan, Blackburn, Rochdale, Salford, Bury and Great Harwood attended. The position brought about by the A.R.O.C.M.U.A. merger was discussed and those present are stated to have been unanimous in their approval.

Co-ordination of the various association committees, with the object of founding a united organization for the whole of the independents of the area, was then considered and a new passenger board comprising all the associations represented was formed, There is to be a general co-ordination of the work of the various committees, especially in dealing with matters of principle. The board will replace the old Lancashire Coachowners' Standing Joint Committee and is to confer with the Yorkshire Standing Joint Committee, in the near future, with a view to the independents of the two areas presenting a united front on all important matters.

Possibilities of an agreement not to carry contract parties from towns other than those where operators concerned have originating excursion and tour licences (hire to local operators being excepted) were also discussed and it is understood that this will be the subject of further investigation.

A.R.O. South-eastern Appointments.

Mr. D. Richardson, of Chatham, was re-elected chairman of the SouthEastern Area of A.R.O., at a recent meeting of the newly elected area board, Mr. 0. S. Moore, of Maidstone, being re-elected vice-chairman. Both officials were elected as delegates to the National Council. At the same meeting it was decided to hold this year's annual social function of the area at Brighton.
