MR. GEORGE HENRY PULFREY, Of Nottingham, has been appointed transport manager to St. Helens Corporation, a position recently vacated by Mr. A. A. Jackson. For the past six years he has been rolling-stock engineer to Nottingham Corporation, and was formerly engineer in charge of municipal buses and trains at Sheffield.

MR. C. COURTNEY CRAMP, F.R.S.A., F.R.S.S., the new national chairman of the Industrial Transport Association, began his business career with Lord Montagu of Beaulidu, on the editorial staffs cif the old Car Illustrated and Car Magazine. He then entered the service of Allen and Hanburys, Ltd., acting in progressive capacities until his period of active service in France and Belgium. On returning, he became supervisor of the traffic department of his old company, later becoming transport superin4ndent. He has served on many transport committees and is a member of the National Ancillary Board and several committees of the C.M.U.A.

MR. MATTHEW WILES, J.P., recently received a presentation from the managing directors of Thompson Bros. (Bilston), Ltd., in recognition of his 50 years' service with the company. He joined the concern at the age of 13 years and commenced work in the sheet-metal department. He was, later, responsible for acetylene and electric welding, advancing to manager of this department, a position which he still holds. He takes a keen interest in the. welfare activities of the company.

MR. BENJAMIN ENGLAND, general manager and engineer of Leicester Transport Department, has been recommended by Nottingham Passenger Transport Committee to succeed the late Mr. J. L. Gunn as general manager and engineer of the Nottingham undertaking.

In view of the efficient manner in which MR. H. G. MORLEY, the traffic superintendent, had controlled the undertaking since the death of Mr. Gunn, the committee recommended the council to approve his appointment as deputy manager.

MR. DAVID WRIGHT has been appointed chairman of the Scottish Carriers' and Haulage Contractors' Association, in succession to Mr. John Strang. His family has been in the transport industry since the latter part of the eighteenth century. He is an original member of the Association, and was co-opted to the Board in 1935. On the death of Mr. Ormiston, the first secretary of the Association, Mr. Wright carried on as honorary secretary until the appointment of Mr. Hamish MacDougall. Mr. Wright is one of the Association's representatives on the Standing Joint Committee, and has been nominated to the Scottish Regional Rats Committee.
