ON Wednesday in London the Road Haulage Association's new standing committee on labour relations was elected from among 'members who have had close connections with these matters in recent years. The new committee is empowered to negotiate with the trade unions and other bodies on all aspects of employment, including wages arid conditions, and can conclude agreements—though at present the Road Haulage Wages Council remains the statutory body.
One of the committee's first tasks will be to meet the transport unions to decide how the " 12-a-side " national negotiating machinery is to function in practice.
The members of the new labour relations committee are:— Mr. N. T. O'Reilly, chairman; Mr. R. H. Farmer, vice-chairman : Mr. H. Bell, Mr. R. R. Brittain, Mr. G. E. Chettle, Mr. R. Clifford, Mr. R A. Edwards, Mr F. C. Harfoot, Mr. R. S. Heaton, Mr. R. N. Ingram. Mr.. J. A. Murly and Mr. J. P. Wells.
Mr. O'Reilly and Mr. Farmer are chairman and vice-chairman respectively of the employers' panel of the Wages Council and seven other members of the new committee are also on this panel.
