As CM went to press the massive IAA show in Hanover was opening. It's attracted 1,200 exhibitors from 40 countries showing everything from truas, vans, trailers and bodywork to accessories and services — here are some of the highlights.

Daf Euro-5 engine

I'llE BIG NEWS on the Daf stand was the debut of its all-new Euro-5 compliant XM engine. The first application for the 12.9-litre engine will be the XF range. From the second half of next year the XM units will be available at 410, 460 and 510hp, giving peak torque of 2,000, 2,300 and 2.500Nm respectively. They will be followed by a two-stage turbocharger variant developing 560hp/2.750Nm.

The new engine uses DeN0x "selective catalytic reduction" technology to meet the forthcoming exhaust emissions legislation. It features the latest-generation Delphi high-pressure injection system.a compact graphite iron (CGI) block, a one-piece cylinder head and four valves per cylinder. The CF85 will also get this engine, in ratings from 360 to 510hp.
