DURING the year ended March 31 1966 there

were three strikes by the employees of Coras Iompair Eireann which are estimated to have caused revenue losses of 1780,000. There was a net deficit for the year of £2,229,000 compared with a deficit of £1,475,000 for the previous year. However, the board receives a subsidy of 12m. a year so that over the two-year period it was still £296,000, on the right side.

Much of the loss was due to railway working. Surplus on road passengers was £364,000, a reduction of £296,000 from the previous year. Road freight brought a surplus of £190,000, an improvement of £145,000 on the previous year. Not only was there an £84,000 increase in revenue but expenses were cut by £61,000.

Of the receipts, 34.6 per cent came from road passenger services, 14.9 per Gent from the road freight, 15.9 per cent from rail passengers and 19.7 per cent from rail freight. More than 60 per cent of total expenditure was for wages, salaries and pensions.
