Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A NNOUNCED by the Primrose Mini Axle Co. Ltd. is a new twin-steer conversion for tractive units, called the Offset. The design enables almost equal steering-axle load without the need for the fifth-wheel coupling to be positioned further forward than 2 ft. 3 in. On some tractive units 1 ft. 6 in. forward would be sufficient to achieve the required loadings.

The conversion provides for a wide-spaced steering bogie based on the Primrose Rear-aSteer design and where vehicle manufacturers will co-operate by supplying a tractive unit having a balance-beam situated at the leading end of the drive-axle springs, the design enables a bias of loading to be applied to the driving axle.

Air load-transfer cylinders are fitted so that if bad road conditions reduce tyre adhesion the second steering axle can be retracted, so (inposing a greater load on the driving axle. Dualdiaphragm brake chambers are supplied, making the axle suitable for coupling into both the service and secondary braking systems.

Primrose claim that the extra weight penalty Incurred by the conversion Is in the region of 12 cwt. and, to overcame the lack of space created by the inclusion of the third axle, fuel tanks are repositioned.
