NYONE who thinks that the Commercial Motor Show opening at Earls Court today must be an ti-climax compared with the previous one in the ries, with its host of interesting new models, is very ide of the mark. Admittedly, there is not the same ncentration of brand-new vehicles—made especially bvious in 1964 by the number of new cabs—but ngineering is more than skin deep and the 1966 Show as a number of important new vehicles and a great any significant changes in detail design among estabshed models.

The last Show's clear trend towards higher-powered ngines is still with us at the 1966 event and is accomanied by a lot of new activity in the transmission field. ew gearboxes—British and American—are used on ome Show models and semi-automatic or fully-autoatic transmission is obviously looked upon by some anufacturers as the thing for the near future.

Braking is another aspect of vehicle engineering at is taking up designers' time, but here the fact that ossible changes in regulations are still in proposal rm is not helping them in their work. Visitors to Earls ourt will find it interesting to compare the braking systems on British vehicles with those shown Continental manufacturers. There are more °verse companies with stands this year than at any rece Show and as well as European vehicles one Japane make will be represented.

Full details of vehicles to be seen on the 33 stan occupied by chassis manufacturers are given in t following pages. There are five more exhibitors in th section than at the 1964 Show, with Alvis out b Bristol, DAF, Fiat, Hino, International Harvester a Magirus-Deutz in. As well as the vehicles referred in this stand-by-stand review there will be others the demonstration park, of which details are often n known until the last minute.

The Show is open every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p. (except Sunday, September 25) until Saturday, October Before 5 p.m. on weekdays the admission charge is 5 after 5 p.m. this is reduced to 2s. 6d. On both Sh Saturdays admission is 2s. 6d. all day.
