Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

I N view of the tyre articles which have, for some time past, been a feature of this journal, a tell-tale indicating device, which warns a driver that a tyre is either punctured or has lost considerable pressure, should prove of more than usual interest. In effect, the fitting, which is in the form of a reinforced rubber tube containing a flexible metallic core, is a switch, which closes a circuit when the tube is deflected as the result of making contact with the road.

The metal core, which is rigidly encased at its lower end, is connected by a bunch of bare wires to a terminal on the top of the fitting. In the area of these wires, the tube is metal lined, the outside securing-clip being electrically connected to this lining.

When in position on the axle, the lower end of the fitting is so arranged as to be clear of the road with the tyres correctly inflated and under normal load. Should a tyre Jose pressure to such an extent as to bring the device into contact with the ground, the rubber mounting deflects and with it the flexible core, which then makes contact with the metal lining and so completes an electrical circuit to a dash lamp or bell.

Apart from its use on single-tyred wheels, it can be fitted between twin tyres and so adjusted in relation to the walls as to come into operation by the dragging action of a deflated tyre. It should prove of particular service on trailer wheels.

It is to be noted that the metal portion at the base is e:t6 extended beyond the rubber outer casing so that the latter does not make contact with the ground.

The price of each indicator is 43s., but this does not include a lamp or any other fdrm of dash fitting. Inquiries should be sent to British Automotive and Chemical Industries, Ltd., 44, Packington Road, Acton, London, W.3, the sole agent in this country for the indicator.
