AA CCORDING to the annual report of general manager of the tramways department of Aberdeen Corporation, the revenue earned by the tramways and bus undertakings for the year ended May 31st last again constituted a record. It amounted to 1258„308, as compared with the previous year's total of £238,364, the increase being largely accounted for by the big. influx of holidaymakers into the city during the summer months, and to the development that has taken place in connection with bus operation.

The gross profit on the past year's working of the buses was £17,971, which compares with £15,248 in the previous year. Interest, sinking fund and other charges absorbed £7,393, as against £5.631 a year earlier, whilst for the,past year there was an additional .commitmeat of £2,000 for the accident. insurance fund, so that the balance was actually £8,578 as contrasted with £9,617 in the year ended May 31st, 1929; the balance has been carried to the depreciation and renewal fund.

The working of the motor services has again been very successful, the total revenue amounting to £90.671, representing an increase of £14,272 over the previous year's 6gure, whilst working expenses were £72,700, a figure which is higher by 1.11,548 than that for the previous year.

During the year the buses coYered an aggregate mileage of 2,026,978, this figure being an increase of 224,571 on the iprevious year's figure. The buses .carried 17,285,230 passengers, and when the total traffic dealt with by the trams and buses is taken into account, the average amount paid in fares per head of population was 31s. Pd.

At the end of May last the corporation had in service 63 motorbuses and 10,. motor coaches, all of the former

being single-deck The fleet is almost equally divided between Vdhicles of

Albion and Thornycroft manufacture. Twelve new 32-seaters were put into service during the year, seven being four-cylinder 'Albion vehicles and the remainder six-cylinder Illornycroft machines.

The capital expenditure on the btu system has been £52,456. In the past yea] the average total revenue per bus-milt was equal to 10.73d., the average working expenses on the same basis being 8.6d., the difference being 2.13d. per bus-mile. The average fare paid per passenger was 1.2d., and the average number of passengers carried per mile 8.52. The average number of miles covered per day per bus was 94. the average speed at which the vehicles ran during the year being 9.2 m.p.h.
