• Edinburgh was named the city most likely to introduce road pricing first at the launch of The Centre for the Management of Traffic and the Environment (CMTE). The think-tank has been set. up with Government support to research a wide range of traffic-curbing measures, says its chairman— Road Haulage Association director-general Steve Norris.
But transport professor David Begg, who put forward the case for road pricing at the launch, reaffirmed long-standing rumours that Edinburgh would trial a toll scheme first.
