• Mr John Peyton, Minister for Transport Industries, has announced that the DoE is reviewing proposals for eight miles of M27 South Coast Motorway between Havant in Hampshire and Chichester in Sussex, following nearly 300 objections received since publication of the draft proposals in July 1972. The review will take full account of the proposals set out in the recent Government White Paper, "Development and Compensation — Putting People First".
If it is decided to proceed with the present scheme following the completion of the review it is likely that the Secretary of State for the Environment will order a public inquiry to be held before the end of the year. In these circumstances construction could be completed in 1977.
