Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Amendments to the Construction and Use Regulations which specify unsafe combinations of tyres have been laid before Parliament by Mr John Peyton, Minister for Transport Industries.

The regulations, which come into force on July 1, ban the combination of a cross-ply tyre and a radial tyre on the same axle and the fitting of radial tyres on the front axle with cross-ply on the rear. The restrictions apply to vehicles up to 30cwt and on all cars.

The regulations on reflective rear markings are also amended to permit in certain cases the marking plate to be attached to a projecting load while certain specialist vehicles, for example tar boilers and military vehicles, will no longer need to be fitted with rear markings.
